ASK Salt Spring, born with a big bang of a party on October 4, 2019, will soon begin its seventh year of weekly gatherings, every week, week after week. Born from the clear frustrations experienced by too many when seeking answers to even simple questions, its mission is to give Islanders the opportunity to ask questions, listen to those of others, and engage in respectful conversations about the issues most important to them.
Our complex governance has resulted in confusion about who does what as well as too many areas of either gaps, overlap, or duplication. ASK Salt Spring is an attempt to bridge silos by providing a consistent place Islanders can come to get the answers they need.
While the heart of ASK Salt Spring is its weekly gatherings at SIMS, the former Middle School on Frisdays from 11-1, the email option to ask questions (ask@asksaltspring.com) is also heavily-used.
Reports of weekly gatherings are posted in the Salt Spring Exchange and read by thousands every week. With this consistent and well-read flow of information, even those who have not participated in the conversations have the opportunity to gain information from them.
The ASK Salt Spring Society recently formed an amazing new Board with plans to keep on doing what has worked so well. . . but better and better each week.
In addition to our every Friday 11-1 gatherings, MLA Rob Botterell has requested an every other month gatherngs in the evening, beginning this October 3 at 7:00 pm at SIMS.
